Californians with disabilities and the barriers that they face

According to HealthCal, there are about 4.5 million adults and children living in California with a disability. Yet, about 1/3 of children are not receiving adequate care. Through a study conducted in 2004, research findings indicated that adults with disabilities are less likely to see a physician than adults without disabilities. The barriers don’t end there!

Many supporters of the disabled community are advocating against recent policy changes. California has transferred millions of adults with disabilities to Medi-Cal, which provide fewer physicians. Furthermore, the California Services program is set to end their pediatric inpatients and outpatient care to those with chronic and acute conditions. There is much uncertainty about whether to extend it.
The State must accommodate the needs of Californians with Developmental disabilities.
